Der durchschnittliche Lagerbestand im Zähler errechnet sich aus der Summe der Lagerbestände in t – 1 und t = 1 dividiert durch zwei. Days Inventory Outstanding (DIO) genannt, meint die durchschnittliche Reichweite der Lagerbestände in Tagen. Die DIH geben an, wie lange ein Unternehmen Kapital in Lagerbeständen bindet, wie viele Tage sich Vorräte im Unternehmen vom Wareneingang bis zum Verkauf im Unternehmen befinden. Alternativ wird auch der Begriff '''Lagerbestandsreichweite''' verwendet.
